Useful For
Total amylase activity in serum and urine is most frequently measured for the diagnosis of pancreatic disorders. Although amylase is not organ (pancreas) specific, measurement in conjunction with lipase remain the clinician’s choice due to fast turnaround time. Hyperamylasemia is also found in other conditions, including perforated peptic ulcer, ruptured ectopic pregnancy, diabetic ketoacidosis, some renal disease, salivary disease, and macroamylasemia.

Collection/Processing Instructions
Samples collected in a RTT or GTT must be removed from cells within one hour for storage or transport.
Samples collected in gel barrier tubes must be removed from the primary tube prior to transporting to Marshfield.
Do not send the primary collection tube.
