Useful For

Beta 2 microglobulin levels are useful as predicters of longevity in patients with multiple myeloma, and are useful in monitoring patients who have undergone renal transplants.

In inflammatory disorders (RA, SLE, Sjogren's Syndrome and Crohn's disease) and lymphoproliferative diseases (multiple myeloma, B cell lymphoma, CLL), serum B2M levels are frequently elevated reflecting an increased rate of synthesis.
