Collection/Processing Instructions
Plasma must be separated from red cells within 2 hours of collection. If assay cannot not be performed within 2 hours, plasma may be stored up to 7 hours refrigerated, or at -20° Celsius for longer storage. Preferred storage is frozen. For add-on testing, EDTA whole blood samples (pink or lavender top tube) stored up to 2 hours at 2-25° C may be used to obtain the plasma sample.

Interferences
Grossly hemolyzed and icteric samples should be avoided.
Interpretations
Normal values < = 100 pg/mL
BNP results greater than 100 pg/mL are considered abnormal and suggestive of patients with CHF.
The following interpretative comment is added to all results:
>100 to <200 pg/mL: Likely compensated congestive heart failure (CHF)
200 to 400 pg/mL: Likely moderate CHF
>400 pg/mL: Likely moderate to severe CHF
