Test Code GLPOC Inform II Glucose-Point of Care or Hemocue Glucose-Point of Care

Important Note

For internal ordering only. Not available to outreach clients.

Useful For

Inform II: Quantitatively measuring glucose in fresh venous, arterial, neonatal heel-stick and finger-stick capillary whole blood. This system is NOT for use in diagnosis or screening of diabetes mellitus, nor for testing neonate cord blood samples.

Hemocue: Quantitatively measure glucose in capillary, venous, or arterial whole blood samples. This system can be used to supplement clinical evidence in the diagnosis, screening, and/or treatment of diabetes mellitus as well as in the monitoring of neonatal blood glucose levels.

Collection/Processing Instructions

Inform II: Samples taken from a venous or arterial line draw must be certain that the line was cleared appropriately before blood is drawn. For capillary punctures stimulate blood flow to site prior to the puncture by warming the site, position hand below heart, massage hand by stroking from palm to the fingertips. Wipe away the first drop of blood before collecting sample. A fresh puncture must be used for every test.

Hemocue: For capillary collection: make sure patient hand is warm and relaxed, use only middle or ring finger for sampling. Wipe away first 2-3 drops of blood before collecting sample, fill cuvette with one continuous process, wipe excess blood from cuvette, and look for air bubbles.

For INFORM II or HEMOCUE: In case of severe hypotension or peripheral circulatory failure, glucose measurements from capillary samples on any glucometer may be misleading. Use Venous or arterial blood for testing from these patients.
