Useful For
This test is performed to aid in the evaluation of patients with chronic diffuse muscular aches or cramps or pains and for patients suspected of having a defect in anaerobic glycolysis.

Collection/Processing Instructions
Specimen must be drawn WITHOUT a tourniquet and WITHOUT hand clenching.
Specimens are drawn at baseline and at 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20 minutes post exercise.
Centrifuge in refrigerated centrifuge immediately and remove plasma to plastic tube within 15 minutes.
Send all blood specimens to the laboratory as a group at the end of the test. After collection, each sample should be kept on wet ice until analyzed.

Test Information
Lactic acid analyses are routinely performed on the blood specimens. Ammonia, if desired, must be requested and collected separately in 3 mL heparinized (green top) tubes.
Set up: Monday through Friday only. Schedule test with Clinic Cardiology.
