Collection/Processing Instructions

5 filter paper circles completely filled with free flowing capillary blood on special filter paper specimen cards.  Completely air dry card in horizontal position before sending to the laboratory.

 

Blood must dry for a minimum of 3 hrs. Dried specimens should be transported to State Laboratory of Hygiene within 24 hours (the State Laboratory of Hygiene provides a next-day courier delivery service).

Rejection Criteria

Circles containing clots or less than four completely filled dried blood circles on card.

 

Incomplete saturation, uneven saturation, layed specimen, plasma separated from red blood cells, specimen damaged, blood clots within the circle of blood, contamination with water, formula, urine, tissue fluid, antiseptic, etc.

 

Specimen received more than seven days after collection, specimen not allowed to dry before mailing, outdated collection card, large folds or creases through the blood circles, defective specimen collection card, blood observed on tan cover.
