Test Information

The test utilizes real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the amplification of specific DNA targets and utilizes fluorogenic target-specific hybridization probes to detect and differentiate DNA from:

  • Bacterial vaginosis markers (Individual markers not reported)
  • Candida spp. (C. Candida spp. (C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis, C. dubliniensis))
  • Candida glabrata
  • Trichomonas vaginalis

If Trichomonas vaginalis is suspected in a male, order TRICNAM.

For females 14 years or younger: this test has not been validated for anyone under the age of 14 years old.  For pediatric patients, if a yeast infection is suspected, order a FUNG (Fungal Culture); if a bacterial infection is suspected, order a AERS (Aerobic Culture w/Sensitivity w/GS).
