Test Code MET-RND Metanephrine Fractionation, Urine Random (U MET)
Useful For
Quantitation of urine normetanephrine (NMN) and metanephrine (MN), collectively referred to as 'metanephrines', together with plasma metanephrine levels is useful as the initial screen to aid in the diagnosis and follow-up of catecholamine-producing tumors, pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma.
24-hr urine is highly recommended. (See test code MET for further details on 24 hour urine testing)

Test Information
Patient results determined by other methods may not be comparable.
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Marshfield Labs. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. This test is used for clinical purposes. It should not be regarded as investigational or for research.
Interferences
Patients should be off Buspirone ("Buspar") for 72 hours before collection as the drug may cause false elevations of metanephrine.
Patients should be off of Sinemet (Levodopa or Carbidopa), L-Dopa, Aldomet (Methyldopa) and methanamine mandelate (Hiprex, Mandelamine, Urex) for 1 week (minimum of 48 hours) prior to collection.
