Test Code NK Natural Killer (CD16, CD56, CD57) Profile

Useful For

Changes in the NK profile may be useful to monitor the response to therapy in Lyme disease.  If monitoring by CD57 only is desired, order CD57 test code.

Natural killer cells are a subset of the lymphocyted population. To quantitate all subsets (including T-cells, B-cells & NK cells), see test code TBNK (Immune Deficiency Cell Markers).

If a large granular lymphocyte proliferation is suspected, see test code FLOW (Flow Cytometry Immunophenotyping).

Collection/Processing Instructions

If a CBC with differential has been performed within 4 hours of the collection for the NK Profile, please send a copy of the CBC with differential results along with the NK Profile specimen. If a CBC with differential has not been performed in this time period, include an order for the CBC with differential. This requires a separate EDTA whole blood (LTT) and two unstained EDTA smears.

Notify Flow Cytometry Lab (800-222-5835, ext. 16385) before sending the specimen.

Specimen must arrive in Flow Cytometry within 48 hours of collection.
